Chrome-extension audits run entirely on your device. For a web audit, our server fetches the public URL you request so the browser's cross-origin restrictions do not block the report; page contents are processed transiently and are not stored. Visibility probes run on our servers using our AI-provider accounts, and their results are stored in your account. The website uses the analytics described below; we sell no data, and you never handle an API key.
Sign-in is via Google; we store the email address and name Google shares, your business profile (name, industry, location, keywords, competitors — what you enter to generate probe questions), your subscription state, and your probe results. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see card numbers. You can request account deletion at team@clearmud.ai. We remove application data associated with the account; Stripe may retain transaction records where legally required.
What stays on your device (Chrome's storage.local, never Chrome-synced): audit results, local audit history, and action-plan progress. Your business profile is also cached locally and, when signed in, stored in your GEOExtension account for probes and cross-device setup. Removing the extension deletes the local copy.
Page access: the extension reads a page's content only when you explicitly click Audit or Analyze and pre-fill on it. Audits happen locally and do not transmit page content. If you are signed in and explicitly choose Analyze and pre-fill, a limited excerpt of that current page is sent transiently to our backend and one managed AI provider to suggest editable profile fields; the excerpt is not stored. The first use on a site triggers a Chrome permission prompt for that specific site, revocable any time in Chrome's extension settings. The extension does not passively monitor or collect your general browsing activity. It stores the URL and title only for pages you explicitly audit, as part of the local audit history described above; that history stays on your device and keeps the most recent 20 audits.
What it transmits: when signed in, the extension sends your business profile, account requests, probe requests, and—only when you click Analyze and pre-fill—the limited current-page excerpt described above to our backend (Convex). Audit results and audited page content remain local.
Pro members may ask Clearmud to review a done-for-you implementation project. We store the website, service or market, requested recommendation goals, optional context, account email, and references to the member's latest GEOExtension profile, audit, and visibility probe. We use this information only to qualify, respond to, and manage the requested engagement. When transactional email is enabled, our email provider processes the inquiry to notify Clearmud and send the member a confirmation. Submitting an inquiry does not charge a card or create an implementation agreement. You may request deletion at the contact address below.
When you run a probe, our servers send the generated buyer questions (built from your business profile — not from the page excerpt used for optional pre-fill) to the AI providers we operate accounts with (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity), under our agreements with them. Answers, mention analysis, and scores are stored in your account. Probe allowances exist to keep included AI usage sustainable; we don't resell or mark up tokens.
The extension's use of data obtained through Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements: page content is processed locally for requested audits; the limited excerpt used by the separately requested smart pre-fill is processed only to generate those editable suggestions. Neither is sold or used for advertising.
geoextension.com uses Google Analytics (traffic measurement) and Microsoft Clarity (aggregate usage patterns and session replays that show how visitors interact with public content). Clarity is disabled on the account and analyzer routes. These tools never run inside the Chrome extension, and we don't use them for advertising or sell what they collect. Their processing is governed by Google's and Microsoft's privacy statements.
